Hawaiian Shaving Company's vegan products use non GMO ingredients and organic ingredients whenever possible.
Activated charcoal is antiseptic (which is helpful if you get nicks or weepers) and absorbs excess oil from oily skin. It tightens pores and helps to treat acne and other skin conditions. It also gently exfoliates skin while lathering. Our activated charcoal is made from coconut husks.
Aloe vera is used topically to relieve pain from burns and abrasions. It is also used to promote healing in inflammatory skin conditions and to prevent scarring. As the aloe vera plant is a succulent that absorbs water and chemical compounds from the soil, we use aloe vera from organically grown plants.
Coconut oil is naturally antibacterial and antifungal. It is rich in medium chain triglycerides and vitamin E to keep skin supple. It is hypoallergenic and contains none of the proteins that trigger peanut or tree nut allergies. We only use organic coconut oil in our soaps and preshave and beard oils.
Kukui nut oil has been used by Hawaiians for hundreds of years to treat skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis. It is easily absorbed to moisturize and rehydrate the skin. Our kukui nut oil is wild harvested and cold pressed.
Macadamia nut oil is rich in essential fatty acids, and is an analog to human sebum. Because of this, it is able to to be easily absorbed into the skin and hair shaft.
This makes the skin supple and adds conditioning and luster to hair. It also contains protective phytosterols that reduce skin irritation and inflammation.
Witch hazel is a natural astringent that tones the skin and reduces inflammation. The tannins in witch hazel remove excess oil, and polyphenols help to repair skin damage.
We use essential oils instead of fragrance oils for our scents. Our essential oils are carefully blended to achieve the maximum benefits of each oil.
Living on an island, we are keenly aware of the footprint we leave when using consumable products. Our products come in recyclable steel tins and glass bottles to prevent filling our landfills with plastics. There is a Hawaiian proverb, He wa'a he moku, he moku he wa'a. (The canoe is an island, the island is a canoe.) It points out the limited resources on a voyaging canoe and reminds us to be good stewards of our environment.
Mālama i ka 'aina.
